The Story

Lamourette is a small, artisanal estate situated less than a kilometre from the prestigious Château d’Yquem. It is the women of the Leglise family that have been making wine here for over 160 years. They have just 10 hectares of vines - tiny in Bordeaux terms – with many of them over 40 years old. Sandy clay soils, underpinned by a limestone subsoil, contribute to the vibrant freshness and pronounced fruit character of the Semillon grown here.

Grapes are meticulously handpicked over two to four selective ‘tries’ through the vines, ensuring only the ripest berries are chosen. Fermentation is carried out in small stainless-steel vats, tailored to the vines’ age, the terroir, and grape ripeness. The wine is then aged partly in stainless steel to preserve freshness and partly in oak barrels to develop complexity. The estate is uncompromising about quality; if weather conditions prevent the production of exceptional grapes in a given year, no wine is made.

This is great value, mature Sauternes that will continue to evolve in bottle.
