The Story

Château Saransot-Dupré, located in the Listrac-Médoc appellation of Bordeaux, France, boasts a rich history dating back to 1735. This is when the Saransot domaine was first planted with vines. In 1844, a winemaker named Dupré acquired portions of the estate, merging them with the Saransot vineyards to establish Château Saransot-Dupré in 1868. The Raymond family, with deep roots in Listrac-Médoc viticulture since 1756, purchased the château in 1875, and it has remained under their stewardship ever since.

The estate's vineyards are situated on a clay-limestone terroir, ideal for cultivating Bordeaux varietals. The red wines are crafted from a blend dominated by Merlot, complemented by Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and a touch of Carmenère. This composition yields wines with lush, ripe fruit characters, notably black currant, and a fresh, lingering finish. The 2022 vintage, for instance, was lauded for its floral and dark fruit aromas, coupled with a balanced palate and refined tannins.

In addition to their reds, Château Saransot-Dupré produces a distinguished white wine, blending Sémillon (50%), Sauvignon Blanc (45%), and Muscadelle (5%). The Sémillon vines, some planted as early as 1935, contribute to the wine's complexity. Fermentation occurs primarily in oak barrels, imparting richness and a smooth texture. The 2021 vintage showcased aromas of ripe peach, Meyer lemon, and pineapple, with a beeswax-like mouthfeel balanced by delicate acidity.

The estate's wines are known for their aging potential; stored in optimal conditions, they can evolve gracefully for up to 20 years, with exceptional vintages lasting over half a century.
