The Story

Located in the heart of Marlborough at the northern tip of New Zealand’s South Island, Cloudy Bay is a hallmark of quality and innovation. Since its establishment in 1985 by David Hohnen and winemaker Kevin Judd, it has played a pivotal role in showcasing the potential of New Zealand wines, particularly the world-renowned Sauvignon Blanc. When I started my wine career in Oddbins circa 2002, it was the one wine people came in asking for time and time again.

The winery is situated in an area of exceptional natural beauty, with its vineyards framed by dramatic mountain ranges and expansive skies. Not just a serene backdrop, the setting also provides ideal conditions for producing premium wines. The cool, maritime climate enhances the distinct, vibrant flavours that characterise the wines. Yields are, on average 30% lower than the regional average.

The Cloudy Bay portfolio also includes a velvety, nuanced Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and sparkling wine Pelorus.
