Joseph and more recently Côte-Rôtie. Hervé Richard has been making wine here since 1989, when the baton was passed down. His parents and grandparents practiced polyculture and as well as making wine, and farmed apples, pears, cherries, apricots and asparagus. In 1995, Hervé made the decision to focus solely on quality wine and built a new winery and cellar at the estate, located in Chavanay. Their vineyards are planted on the magnificently steep hillsides that overlook the majestic river Rhône below. Always tended with meticulous care, without the help of any mechanisation - you certainly wouldn’t want to drive a tractor on those slopes!
The resulting wines express these special terroirs: wines with great complexity and purity. A third of the Condrieu is aged in French oak for 11 months, adding weight and complexity without masking any of the distinctive, perfumed Viognier aromatics.
