Esk Valley

Gordon Russell strives to make wines that tell the story of the vineyards from which they came. Under his guidance, Esk Valley have broken boundaries by introducing new grape varieties and wine styles to the beautiful region of Hawkes Bay, on the eastern coast of New Zealand’s North Island. Gordon takes an artisanal, hands-off approach with little need for science along the way. He makes wine by feel and experience and interprets vintages and grapes in his own particular way whilst maintaining consistency and quality to define the Esk Valley style. For a little more than ‘entry’ Marlbrough styles (nearly all of which is now bottled in the UK), their Sauvignon is a brightly flavoured, textured steal. Their Pinot is a snip too.
