The Story

Folding Hill is a boutique winery located in Bendigo, one of the most esteemed sub-regions of Central Otago, New Zealand. It is a family-owned and operated venture led by Tim and Nikki Kerruish. The couple first crossed paths on New Zealand’s North Island three decades ago while pursuing careers as doctors, but their shared passion for the breath-taking landscapes and wines of Central Otago eventually drew them south. They looked at no fewer than 30 sites before settling on Folding Hill, and the foundation of their winery began with the planting of the first vines in late 2003.

The estate is renowned for crafting exceptional Pinot Noirs that reflect the unique terroir of its high-altitude vineyards. The estate’s name, inspired by the undulating hills surrounding the property, speaks to its deep connection with the land. Small-scale production allows for meticulous attention to detail at every stage of the winemaking process. All grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted to ensure only the finest fruit is used.

The winemaking philosophy at Folding Hill focuses on minimal intervention, allowing the character of the grapes and the Bendigo terroir to shine through. Fermentation is carried out with wild yeasts, and wines are aged in French oak barrels to enhance complexity and structure without overwhelming the fruit's vibrant flavours. The Pinots are known for their rich, concentrated flavours of dark berries, spice, and earthy undertones, balanced by bright acidity and silky tannins.
