The Story

ViniVerso is the new collaborative wine project from the renowned Mario Zannusso of I Clivi. He has brought together a group of passionate winemakers who are all committed to producing authentic wines that reflect the region’s unique terroir.

Vineyards are located in the best areas of the Friuli plains – between Italy and Slovenia – where the soils and the influence of the nearby Adriatic ensure grapes capable of producing fine and intense wines. Very old alluvial soils are rich in clay, sand and minerals and provide ideal conditions for vine productivity. Windy, dry summers along with mild winters create perfect climatic conditions. Mario well knows the secrets of the land and, along with intelligent use of technology, he extracts the best fruit from it. Harvesting great quality grapes means that he can minimise the operations needed to transform the must into wine, the same winemaking philosophy as at I Clivi.

What sets ViniVerso apart is its focus on indigenous grape varieties and sustainable viticulture. The wines are crafted with meticulous attention to detail, resulting in elegant and expressive wines that allow the varietals to fully express themselves.

ViniVerso is more than just a collection of wines; it's a celebration of Friuli's winemaking heritage. By working together, these talented winemakers are able to produce exceptional wines that capture the essence of their region. The icing on the cake is the remarkably accessible price point.

2023 Verso bianco ‘Scric’

Friulano is a variety that is unique to this part of the world. It’s an easy one to get wrong but this is a classic example of what it can do in the right hands. Lovely depth - peach and pear fruit dance around the palate with a hint of almond blossom. The finish is clean and pure. This is complex and interesting which belies its affordability. Scric means little bird in Friulian dialect.

2023 Verso Pinto Grigio ‘Riz’

This PG is a delight, defying the often-simplistic stereotype of the grape. Notes of elderflower, crunchy green apple and pear combine with white pepper spice, culminating in a long, mineral finish. This is accomplished and very drinkable. Riz means hedgehog in Friulian.

2023 Verso Chardonnay ‘Bestieute’

This unoaked example of chardonnay offers a captivating blend of minerality and fruitiness. Along with citrus zest, green apple and subtle floral notes, there is crisp acidity and a distrinct Friulian salinity that lingers on the finish. Restrained and elegant. Bestieute means little animal in Friulian.
